Preliminary Site Evaluation For most projects with an existing septic system Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use (Environmental Health Division) reviews proposed projects to determine (1) the operating condition of the existing septic system, (2) the approximate location of the system, and (3) whether the proposed project could have a detrimental effect on the continued operation of the system. A PSE is not required for a shed without a permanent foundation and interior remodels not involving bedrooms.

Foundation Drainage System Maintenance Plan When a basement floor is below the high-ground water elevation, it may be possible to install a gravity-drainage system on a sloping site to intercept ground water seepage and route the intercepted water around the residence before being discharged. If a system like that can be installed, an instrument must be recorded by the Waukesha County register of deeds office that describes the system and maintenance requirements.

Application fees are not refundable. They are intended to cover the costs necessary to review the application.

+ - What's the difference between a building permit and a zoning permit? Which comes first?

A zoning permit ensures that the proposed project complies with the Town's zoning regulations in terms of the actual use of the property, the location of proposed uses and buildings, and development standards. A building permit verifies that the proposed work complies with building code regulations, including construction design and specifications. The zoning administrator issues zoning permits and the building inspector issues building permits. A building permit can only be issued after a zoning permit has been issued.

+ - Can a decision made by the Zoning Administrator be appealed?

The Zoning Administrator is authorized to make various decisions which are administrative in nature. All such decisions can be appealed to the Board of Appeals. Details about the procedures and other details are posted HERE. An appeal must be made soon after the decision.
